What to check if the microwave is not heating or operating

If there is no display on the microwave, check the following:

Is the power cord connected (some models)?

Warning_-_3_prong_power_cord.jpg

Verify the power cord is connected to an operational outlet.

If you are not sure whether the outlet is operational, and the outlet is easily accessible, connect a known operating small appliance with similar power cord to the outlet to verify the outlet is operational.

OR

Power the unit down by unplugging the power cord to the microwave or by turning off the circuit breaker for one (1) minute.

Power the unit up by plugging in the microwave power cord or by turning on the circuit breaker.

If the outlet is not operational, you may have to contact a qualified electrician.

Has the circuit breaker tripped or a fuse blown?

Check the main power supply to verify that these are operational.

NOTE: Please be aware of the following if the circuit breaker or fuse trips after resetting: Do not continue to attempt to operate the microwave. Disconnect the power cord or turn off the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the appliance.

If there is a display on the microwave, check the following:

Is the microwave heating?

To test if the microwave is heating:

  • Place one cup (250 mL) of water on the microwave turntable
  • Start the microwave oven for 1 minute on the HI setting (100% Power)

If heat rise is detected, the microwave is heating.

Refer to your Use & Care guide for detailed control operation instructions.

Is this the first use of the microwave? Is the door completely closed?

If this is the first use of the microwave oven, ensure that the shipping spacer (on some models) is removed from the inside of the door. Remove all packaging material and firmly close the door.

Are the controls set correctly for cook time and power level?

For manual cooking:

  1. Touch COOK TIME

  2. Touch the number pads to enter the time for cooking

  3. Touch COOK POWER (if you desire less than 100%)

  4. Touch number pads to enter power level (10 - 90)

  5. Touch START

Refer to your Use & Care Guide for detailed control operation instructions.

Is the control lock set? Does "LOC," "L," or a padlock icon show in the display?

The Control Lock disables the control panel pads to avoid unintended use of the microwave oven.

If "LOC," "L," or a padlock icon shows in the display, then the control lock feature has been enabled.

Is the microwave oven in demo mode (on some models)?

The Demo Mode is ideal for learning how to use the microwave oven. When set, functions can be entered without actually turning on the magnetron. The microwave oven light will come on, the fan will run and, if on, the turntable will rotate.
