Fan is Running During Non Convection Cycles
Why is a Fan Running During the Cycle
Convection Fan
It is normal for the convection fan in your KitchenAid oven or range to run during non-convection cycles. Any gas/electric freestanding range or wall oven with convection may run during preheat or when using non-convection functions. This is to help optimize preheat times, provide uniform oven temperature, and improve baking and cooking performance.

When does the convection fan run?
Normal operation for the convection fan includes:
- Operating during preheat for both non-convection and convection functions.
- It will turn off when the oven door is opened.
- During preheat or when the convection cycle is selected, the convection fan will come on:
- Immediately for all electric convection models.
- After approximately five(5) minutes for all gas convection models.
Cooling Fan
Some models are equipped with a cooling fan, which protects the appliance from overheating. It helps to keep the electronic controls cool during every oven function such as BAKE, BROIL or CLEAN.
When does the cooling fan run?
It is normal for all ranges to have an automatic cooling fan that runs when the oven is in use and/or after a cycle completes. Depending on the oven temperature, duration of cycle, and environmental surroundings, the cooling fan may or may not come on during or after cooking cycles.
The cooling fan will operate until a safe temperature is reached. If the cooling fan runs for a significant amount of time, cycle the power to the appliance to reset the control.
