Frequently Asked Questions - Grain and Rice Cooker
KitchenAid Grain and Rice Cooker - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Which setting would be used if a consumer would like to make porridge?
A: Porridge is not a preset option on the menu. Porridge can refer to oatmeal, rice, or other starchy grains. To make porridge, use rolled oats or steel-cut oats and adjust the water quantity as required. Alternatively, option 2 would be to use the custom setting to manually add water based on your preference.
Q: Can this machine do polenta?
A: The machine does not have a polenta preset. Consumer may use any manual cycle to explore the cooking process desired.
Q: Does this device compensate for the lower boiling point at higher altitudes?
A: No, the device does not adjust for altitude. It works by weight and estimates the total cooking time. The system adjusts the cooking time gradually as the water boils.
Q: Can the water tank be filled with something else, like a broth, to add more flavor?
A: Only water can be added to the water tank. You can add other liquids, such as broth, directly to the ceramic pot based on your recipe. Refer to page 5 of the Use & Care guide for more details.

A: The ceramic pot is the primary cooking component. It does not contain Teflon (free of PTFAs).
Q: I’m looking for products with less plastic. It looks like it has many plastic parts. Are they BPA-free? If so, what are the substitute chemicals used?
A: Yes, the water tank and steam basket are BPA-free and dishwasher-safe. The non-stick pot is made of aluminum with a ceramic coating that does not contain Teflon.
