Head Feels Warm - Stand Mixer

Possible Solutions

Occasionally, the stand mixer head may feel warm, and you may not be able to touch it comfortably.  This is normal.

Was the mixer used for a long time?

Mixing for extended periods (back to back batches of pasta, bread dough, etc.) can cause the mixer head to feel warm.

Was the mixer overloaded?

Exceeding the ingredient capacity of the mixer can cause the mixer head to feel warm.

Did you use the recommended speeds?

The KitchenAid mixer's unique planetary action ensures thorough, efficient mixing. It typically takes approximately half the time stated in a recipe to mix thoroughly. Therefore, it is necessary to adapt any favorite recipes to adjust the kneading time.  Speed 2 is recommended to be used for yeast doughs.  Using either a higher or lower speed can be hard on your mixer motor.

How long will it take to cool down?

If your mixer feels warm and you are not able to comfortably touch it, let it rest and cool entirely internally and externally before resuming mixing.

This may take 30-45 minutes for the exterior and the motor to cool completely. Continuing to use the mixer and/or attachments while it is too warm to touch comfortably may cause damage to your mixer. When completely cooled, the mixer can be turned back on.
