Tips for High Altitude Baking

Here are Tips for High Altitude Baking using KitchenAid Stand Mixer

  • If you live in a high altitude (3,000 feet above sea level or above), cakes may tend to fall and give unpredictable results.
  • Adjustments may be made in liquids, baking powder, and sugar. Since each recipe is different, one may need to experiment.
  • Leavening agents such as baking powder, baking soda, and yeast expand more readily at high altitudes.

 

Ingredients 3,000 Feet 5,000 Feet 7,000 Feet

Liquid:

Add for each cup

1 - 2 Tbs. 2 - 4 Tbs. 3 - 4 Tbs.

Baking Powder:

Decrease for each tsp.

1/8 tsp.  1/8 - 1/4 tsp. 1/4 tsp.

Sugar:

Decrease for each cup

0 - 1 Tbs.  0 - 2 Tbs. 1 - 3 Tbs.
