Cleaning the Filter - Dishwasher

Possible Solutions

Basic Dishwasher Filter Information

Dishwashers are meant to wash and clean your dishes. With that in mind, you do not need to hand wash your dishes before placing them in the dishwasher. If dishes are cleaned before dishwasher use, over time, the detergent can cause a white etching on your dishes. This etching is permanent and cannot be removed. Remove residue from detergents by cleaning the interior once a month. See symptom for "Cleaning the Interior" listed above.

The best way to prepare your dishes for the dishwasher is to scrape large food particles off your dishes. Then load the dishes into the dishwasher. It is not necessary to wash or even rinse your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.

If you do not have a full load, or you do not want to run it immediately, run a "Rinse and Hold" or "Rinse Only" cycle (on some models) on your dishwasher (without detergent). This keeps the dishes moist and eliminates odor build-up. Run this cycle every 24 hours until you have a full load, and then run a complete cycle.

Filter Style 1

  1. Turn the upper filter assembly ¼ turn counterclockwise and lift out.
  2. Separate the upper filter assembly by gently pulling apart.
  3. Rinse filter under running water until most soils are removed. If you have hard-to-remove soils or calcium deposits from hard water, a soft brush may be required.
  4. Reinstall the filter.

Filter Style 2

The pump is protected from large objects entering it by the foreign object cup in the front and below the lower rack. The maintenance-free filter system does not require any regular cleaning or maintenance. If this cup fills up with particles or objects, depress the tab in the center and pull up on the cup to remove it. Dispose of the contents and then replace the cup. To replace the cup, put into the opening and push down to lock in place.
