Melted Plastic or Charred Food Odor - Dishwasher

Possible Solutions

Are there any plastic items or food debris around the heating element?

After the dishwasher is completely cooled down (at least 30 minutes), check around the heating element for any plastic parts or food particles that may have fallen around the heating element during the cycle. Remove any plastic parts or food particles from the heating element after it has cooled. You can use a non metallic item, such as a wooden spoon, to scrape any debris from the heating element. After a few cycles, the excess plastic will burn off.

Run a rinse cycle or a cleaning cycle with affresh® to help remove the odor.

Were non-dishwasher safe plastic items washed?

Wash only dishwasher safe plastic items in the dishwasher. Always place dishwasher safe plastic items in the upper rack only.
