Caring for Wood Handled Cutlery

How to Care for KitchenAid Wood-Handled Cutlery

Wood-handled cutlery is durable, comfortable to hold, and stylish. These practical and beautiful knives make a great addition to any kitchen, and it is important to properly clean and care for them, so they continue to deliver excellent results.

Washing Wood-Handled Cutlery

Wood-handled cutlery should be hand-washed for lasting appearance and performance. It is not dishwasher safe and washing in the dishwasher can cause permanent damage to the natural wood handles.

Caring for Wood-Handled Cutlery

This cutlery comes with natural wood handles that benefit from care. To keep the wood handles looking their best while avoiding warping and cracking, it is recommended to:

  • Wipe the wood handles with a food-grade oil or wood cream about once per month, using a clean cloth or paper towel. This will help prevent the handles from drying out.
  • Make sure the handles are clean and thoroughly dry, then apply a few drops of the oil/cream to the handles and allow it to soak in for a few hours. Wipe off any excess with a clean cloth or paper towel and store in your cutlery block.
  • Never let the wood-handled cutlery soak or rest in water or other liquids, as this will cause cracking and warping.

Sharpening Wood-Handled Cutlery

KitchenAid® wood-handled cutlery sets should be professionally sharpened to avoid damaging blades.
