Not Dispensing Water - Refrigerator

Possible Solutions

Is the Control Lock activated?

The dispenser can be turned off for easy cleaning or to avoid unintentional dispensing by small children and pets. Typically, a "lock" symbol will be displayed to indicate that the feature is turned on. The lock feature does not shut off power to the refrigerator, the ice maker, or the dispenser light. It simply deactivates the dispenser controls and pad. Refer to your Owner's Manual or Quick Start Guide for specific instructions on enabling and disabling the control lock feature.

Is the refrigerator in Sabbath Mode?

Some models are equipped with the Sabbath Mode feature, designed for those whose religious observances require turning off the lights and the ice maker. When this feature is turned on, the temperature set points and Deli Pan settings remain unchanged. LEDs from the electronic controls will not display. The Sabbath button will be the only light displaying. Ice and Water will not dispense. No alarm will ring. Interior lights will turn off.  The product will not change its behavior when the door is opened. Exiting Sabbath Mode varies by model, but typically holding the Sabbath Mode button for 3 seconds activates or deactivates it.

Was the water filter recently replaced?

If the water filter was just replaced or installed, ensure that it was installed correctly.  An improperly installed water filter could reduce or stop water flow, decrease ice production, cause leaks from the filter housing, or lead to other concerns. Check to make sure the water filter is locked in place and creating a proper seal. To check the installation, remove the water filter from the housing and try to dispense some water.  If water dispenses, the water filter was installed improperly; reinstall it.

Was the water line installed correctly?

The refrigerator must be installed to a cold water supply for the ice maker and water dispenser to work. To connect the shutoff valve and the refrigerator, use 1/4" (6.35 mm) O.D. (outside diameter) soft copper or PEX tubing. It is recommended to leave a coil of copper or PEX tubing (service loop) to allow the refrigerator to be pulled out of the cabinet or away from the wall for service or routine cleaning. Water supply lines can be purchased at KitchenAid Purchase Genuine Parts

Check to make sure there are no kinks in the water supply line. A kink can reduce water flow. Straighten the water source line to restore adequate water flow and pressure. To help reduce the chances of a pinched water line, do not push the refrigerator too far back against the wall or cabinet.

Does the water filter need to be replaced?

It is recommended that the KitchenAid water filter be replaced every 6 months, when the indicator light comes on, or as needed. Replacing your water filter regularly helps ensure a continuous supply of cleaner, fresher-tasting drinking water. Depending on your usage and water quality, it may need to be changed more frequently.  A clogged or improperly installed water filter can reduce water flow to the ice maker and dispenser, potentially causing low ice production and slower water flow. KitchenAid recommends using everydrop® water filters. Find the right replacement filter for your refrigerator, and make the simple switch for clean water year-round.

Do you have the correct water pressure?

Ensuring the correct water pressure for your KitchenAid appliance is important for it to function efficiently. Optimal water pressure ensures consistent ice production and smooth water dispensing, while inadequate pressure can lead to performance concerns. Low water pressure can cause water to be dispensed more slowly, result in small or hollow ice cubes, or lead to slow or no ice production. Review Ensuring Correct Water Pressure for recommendation and additional information.

Using a reverse osmosis system? Connecting a refrigerator to an RO system can work, but RO systems can further reduce water pressure. Review Ensuring Correct Water Pressure for more information.

Is the dispenser paddle or pad fully engaged?

If the dispenser paddle or pad is not fully engaged, the dispenser will not dispense ice and/or water.  Check that the glass is engaging the paddle or switch by pressing it firmly.

How to Dispense Water or Ice

  1. Select water or ice on the display (Depending on the Model).
  2. Press a sturdy glass firmly against the dispenser paddle.
  3. Remove the glass to stop dispensing.

NOTE: Please refer to your Owner's Manual for specific information on dispensing water and/or ice for your model.
