Ice has Off Taste or Odor - Newly Installed - Freestanding Ice Maker

Possible Solutions

Does your water have a high mineral count?

Minerals that are removed from water during the freezing cycle will eventually form a hard scaly deposit in the water system.  Hard water of 15 to 20 grains/gal. (4 to 5 grains/liter), may need to cleaned as often as every 9 months.

Was the storage bin washed, prior to first use?

We recommend washing the interior storage bin out before first use.  Not washing the bin could cause the first couple of batches to have an off odor or taste. Discharge ice, wash out the storage bin and continue.

Was all the packaging material removed?

Make sure that all packaging material was removed at the time of installation. Leaving packaging material inside the machine could cause transfer odors and other tastes to the ice.

Is the correct water supply line installed?

We recommend using copper tubing or Whirlpool supply line. Using any other type of cold water supply line could cause odd/off-tasting ice.
