Why Should You Clean Your KitchenAid Ice Maker?

Understanding why the freestanding ice maker should be cleaned is crucial for optimal performance and the production of high-quality ice. Signs Your Ice Maker Needs Cleaning

Minerals removed from water during the freezing cycle will eventually form a hard, scaly deposit in the water system.  Cleaning the system regularly helps remove the mineral scale buildup.  How often you need to clean the system depends on how hard your water is; for harder water, you may need to clean the system as often as every 6 months. Maintaining your freestanding ice maker is essential for a consistent supply of clean and clear ice. Several indicators suggest it's time for a thorough:

  • The "Cleaning Needed" or "Cleaning Cycle" button is illuminated, or every 9 months. 
  • One of the most noticeable signs is a change in the taste or smell of the ice.
  • Another visual clue is the presence of scaling or mineral buildup.
  • Decrease in ice production and ice quality. 

It is recommended that you clean the ice Maker when the "Cleaning Needed" or  "Cleaning Cycle" button is illuminated , after 9 months or if ice production has decreased significantly.
