Not Dispensing Espresso

Possible Solution

Does the machine need to be cleaned?

Limescale build-up or a dirty/clogged brewing unit could prevent it from dispensing.  Perform a cleaning cycle, for detailed information see the "Cleaning" section of this troubleshooting guide or the Owner's Manual.

Check the portafilter

  • Overtamped: Use a slightly firmer tamp, between 15-20 kg or 30-40 lb of force. When you tamp the ground coffee, you need to do it firmly and uniformly for the best results, creating a bed of coffee with an even density. This allows the water to flow evenly through the entire mass of pressed coffee to make the best taste.
  • Too Much Coffee: Ensure the correct filter basket and the proper espresso amount was selected.
  • Grind Size: The grind may be too fine.  Change the grind size to a coarser option.
