Remove Stains/Odors on Slow Cooker

Removing Stains and Odors from your KitchenAid® Slow Cooker

White residue on the ceramic pot after cleaning

  • Small amounts of calcium in wash water or recipe ingredients may leave a white residue in the ceramic pot after it has been washed.
  • This residue does not affect the cleanliness of the unit and is common to the ceramic pots of any slow cooker.
  • Because calcium is white, it shows up especially well in the KitchenAid® Slow Cooker due to the black color of the pot.

The residue is calcium from the wash water or recipe ingredients, and it is not uncommon to see this in ceramic pots of any Slow Cooker.

  1. Pour a small amount of vinegar into the pot and dilute it with an equal amount of water.
  2. Wipe the inside surfaces of the pot with a soft pad saturated in the vinegar/water solution. Be sure to wipe the solution sufficiently over all affected areas.
  3. Empty the pot, rinse with water, and dry with a soft cloth or towel.

Silicone seal retains odor

The silicone seal around the lid can retain the odor of the food cooked in the Slow Cooker, mainly when used to prepare something spicy or containing onion or garlic.

  • KitchenAid® recommends removing the seal from the lid for cleaning because food residue or wash water can become trapped between the seal and lid.
  • It is not unusual for silicone to retain the odor of spicy ingredients.
  • The odor does not affect the performance of the unit and seal but can be removed by following the special cleaning instructions included in the box.

How to remove the odor

  1. Remove the seal from the lid.
  2. In a bleach safe container, add one tablespoon of regular strength liquid bleach to one gallon (3.8 liters) of warm tap water.
  3. Place the seal in the diluted solution and soak for 3 hours.
  4. Rinse thoroughly and wipe down the seal with a dry cloth.
  5. Allow the seal to air dry completely.
  6. Fit the seal back onto the cleaned lid.
