Beater Won't Turn or Stops - Stand Mixer

Possible Solutions

Does your stand mixer have a soft start feature?

Some mixers have a "soft start" feature.  The mixer may hesitate momentarily when turned on.  The speeds will then increase gradually to the selected speed. This is to prevent flour and other ingredients from flying out of the bowl.

Did something fall into the bowl while mixing?

This can happen if something hard fell into the bowl while mixing (e.g., a measuring spoon, the attachment hub cover or hard ingredients) Most likely a gear in the mixer motor has become stripped or damaged, which would require repair or replacement.

The motor turns on, but beaters do not turn.

Does the beater need to be adjusted?

  • If the beater is too high, it cannot reach and incorporate the ingredients.
  • If the beater is too low, it can hit the bottom of the bowl, and the white coating can chip off the bottom of your beater.
  • The clearance is adjusted at the factory, but can change over time, and can easily be raised or lowered.

NOTE:  The "Dime Test" works for stainless bowls only, not glass or ceramic. Due to the nature of glass manufacturing, the clearance will be slightly different, and adjustments should be made without the dime until satisfied with mixing performance. It may take somewhat longer for yeast dough ingredients to come together in a glass bowl.

Speed control does not change speeds, and beaters do not turn.

If your mixer has power and changing speeds with the speed control lever does not cause the beaters to turn,  please Contact Us or visit our Service Locator
