Cleaning KitchenAid Food Storage Containers
Cleaning KitchenAid Glass Food Storage Containers
Keep your KitchenAid reusable glass storage containers clear, fresh, and working like new. This guide covers daily maintenance, deep-cleaning techniques, and best practices to preserve your set for years to come.
Daily Cleaning
Both the glass base and lid are dishwasher safe. Place lids exclusively on the top rack of the dishwasher, while glass bases can be washed safely on any rack.
If hand-washing, use warm water, mild dish detergent, and a soft sponge or microfiber cloth. Avoid scouring pads or harsh, gritty cleaners that can scratch the surface. Always use warm water—excessively high heat can warp plastic lids.
Removing Residue
Rinse Promptly: Rinsing containers immediately after use prevents food stains from setting.
Soak for Tough Messes: For dried-on food, soak both the bases and lids in warm, soapy water for 15–30 minutes, using a bottle brush to reach tight corners.
Clean the Gasket Track: Remove the silicone gasket and wash it separately, making sure to scrub inside the lid grooves.
Reassemble Dry: Reinstall the gasket only after all components are completely dry to prevent moisture from getting trapped underneath.

Drying and Storing
Air-dry all pieces on a drying rack or towel-dry thoroughly, paying special attention to lid seams and gasket channels. To allow proper airflow and prevent lingering odors during storage, keep lids slightly ajar or place a paper towel between the lid and the glass base.
Tackling Stains, Odors, and Long-Term Care
Stain and odor removal
Apply a paste of baking soda and water to stained areas and let sit 15–30 minutes before rinsing. For lingering smells, fill the container with a 1:4 white vinegar to water solution and soak for 30–60 minutes, then wash as usual.
Avoiding damage
To protect the finish and structural integrity of your set:
-
Skip chlorine bleach, oven cleaners, and abrasive powders.
-
Never use metal scouring pads or steel wool on glass or plastic components.
-
Keep plastic lids and silicone gaskets off the bottom rack of the dishwasher, where heating elements can cause distortion.
When to replace: Replace gaskets that stay loose, cracked, or odorous after cleaning, and any containers with deep scratches, chips in glass, or warped lids that prevent a proper seal. With gentle detergents, prompt rinsing, thorough drying, and mindful heat use, you can preserve clarity, seal integrity, and the life of your KitchenAid reusable storage containers.
