Preventative Maintenance for Refrigerators

Needed Maintenance for KitchenAid Refrigerators

To keep your refrigerator running smoothly, we recommend performing the routine checks and tasks below.

Monthly

Clean Interior

  • Will help keep the refrigerator and freezer organized - free of spoiled or expired food
  • Remove and/or prevent odors from forming

Hand washing with a mild detergent is recommended for cleaning. Don't forget to clean the bins and rails.

Every 6 Months

Change Water Filter

Check to make sure your water filter is installed correctly for every 6 months.  

  • Will help provide proper water flow to the dispenser and ice maker
  • Reduce contaminants in water supply

Every 6 Months

Change Air Filter

 

  • Reduces common food odors inside the refrigerator 15 times better than baking soda 
  • Air actively passes through the filter, helping to neutralize odor and bacteria

Located on the back wall of the refrigerator, just remove the cover and insert the new filter.

Every 6 Months

Change Produce Preserver 

Change Produce Preserver placed in any crisper bin in every 6 months.  Open the housing, remove the pouches and insert the new pouches. 

  • Helps slow the ripening process by absorbing gasses given off by fruits and vegetables
  • Extends freshness of produce up to 25%

Can be placed in any crisper bin.  Open the housing, remove the pouches, and insert the new pouches.

Yearly  Clean Condenser Coils
  • Helps keep your refrigerator running efficiently
  • Removes built-up grease and/or hair from the condenser coils

Not all condenser coils need to be cleaned; refer to your Owner's Manual for specific instructions for your model.

Yearly Inspect Door Seals/Gaskets
  • Cuts down on un-needed air leaks
  • Helps keep your refrigerator running efficiently
  • Helps prevent frost and/or condensation build-up from air leaks

Don't forget to clean your gaskets monthly with warm water

Check Leveling

Yearly check the refrigerator is level both front to back and side to side.

  • Will help with proper door function (opening and closing)
  • Will help ice maker operations
